Message from Jacqulyn Buglisi

I had the great pleasure of meeting Tanusree Shankar at the Martha Graham Centre of Contemporary Dance in U.S. (where I was instructing a class.). From this meeting has grown I believe an extraordinary cultural collaboration because of Tanusree’s vision and tremendous faith – the birth of this challenging and exciting experiment for the future growth of Modern Dance in India is taking place here and I am honored to be the Guest of the Ananda Shankar Centre.

Message from Andre W. Tyson

My affiliation with Tanusree and Ananda Shankar has come about through a recommendation from Jacqulyn Buglisi, a former Martha Graham dancer and Master teacher. Although my time at ASCPA has been a brief 3 weeks, I have been amazed at how accessible and adaptable these dancers have been to a technique totally foreign to them. This is a strong and positive testament to Ananda and Tanusree’s vision and dedication.

Message from Margaret Jenkins

Each dancer has his or her own distinction, but the humanity of all is easily visible, readable and firmly present as they enveloped the classes with a voracious appetite and rehearsed with humour, compassion and aplomb.

It is truly astonishing that those who have had little experience with Western training could so quickly assimilate the intention and qualities of the vocabulary.

Clearly it is your training of them and your passion for exposing them to more than surrounds them on a daily basis, that makes them such full, accomplished and resonate beings.

I am honoured to have been asked to work with your dancers and feel we have made a work together, in collaboration, that reflects this time together as well as our two cultures.

One can not pin the meaning of all these days to a wall; it has been mercurial and profound.
